Solidarity Day on Friday 1 January 2010 at 3:00 pm
A shared concern for peace brings together more than 200 activists and citizen organizations from across Pakistan – connecting them under Aman Ittehad. A series of consultative meetings between June-October 2009 -- including the national three-day meeting in Murree from 9-11 October 2009 -- helped identify key concerns and also the pathways to peace. One of the first recommended actions was the need to express solidarity with all that are affected by violence and injustice. The Solidarity Day marks the first step towards implementing actions for peace. The Solidarity Day was observed in at least 58 locations across Pakistan on Friday, 1 January 2010 from 3:00 pm onwards
The key objectives of the solidarity day were:
1. Express solidarity with those affected by violence and injustice
2. Reaffirm commitment to promoting peace and build citizen demand for democratic governance, rule of law, justice and a life of dignity for all
3. Promote connectedness between citizens and citizen organizations committed to peace
Key Messages: The key message of the Solidarity Day is an expression of solidarity with everyone affected by violence and injustice, and a reaffirmation of public resolve that we will prevail – against injustice, against intolerance, against violence. The Solidarity Day is also an expression of public commitment to strive for peace, democratic governance, rule of law, justice and a life of dignity for all.
