AAWAZ Voice And Accountability Programme
AAWAZ is DFIDD-funded, five-year long programme, implemented through 5 leading Pakistani NGOs, well skilled at advocacy and research for governance reforms, in 45 district of Punjab and KPK provinces. The programme seeks to impact on the promotion of a stable, tolerant, inclusive, prosperous and democratic Pakistan. AAWAZ’s outcome is strengthening the fragile democratic processes by making them stable, more inclusive and accountable. Since Voice and Accountability (V&A) framework relies on a web of partnership for its effectiveness and sustainability, AAWAZ programme will seek to form relevant partnership.
Working through experienced locally based organizations, strengthen opportunities for ordinary citizens to engage in governance and hence increase their influence in policy and legislative dialogues. Bring these organizations together around agreed programmes of work in 45 districts prone to local level disputes and disagreements. Pakistani citizens, particularly women and members of traditionally excluded groups, feel they can safely and more effectively make their voices heard to government, and will be better able to work together across gender, ethnic, and class divides to effect lasting change that contributes to more open and inclusive democratic process in Pakistan, improving government’s accountability to citizens.
In order to integrate project activities, we will support various structures that will help citizens and communities to organize at the village, union council, and district levels. We will work through Community Based Organizations (CBOs) or Partner Organizations (POs), which had been well trained by the Consortium partners over the years. They will first map out existing structures and assess their suitability for our programming needs against a set of criteria needed for conducting the programming to the required standards. To the maximum extent possible, we will use existing structures and work with them to develop their capacity to meet the required criteria. If suitable structures do not exist, we will facilitate their development.
